MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

Dear members and subscribers,

I am honored to serve as President of BCHIMPS this year. I look forward to working with our board of directors, members and stakeholders to create another successful year for our organization. We’re off to a great start. At our successful AGM in April 2017, five new directors were elected to the BCHIMPS board:

  • Jennifer Charters, Project Manager, eHealth, PHSA
  • Rosemary Grey, Principal Greymartin Consulting Inc.
  • Havi Parker-Sutton, Account Executive, TELUS
  • Shaina Reid, Senior Manager, CST Project
  • Oliver Thompson, Director, Provincial eHealth Projects, PHSA

We now have a full slate of 11 directors, all of them highly competent and motivated.

My thanks to Candice Jiang, our outgoing president, for her incredible commitment and for her amazing work on behalf of our organization. I am humbled to follow in her footsteps; my goal for the year is to echo the sentiment she expressed at our April 2017 AGM:

“I believe we have many reasons to have enormous pride in our accomplishments.”

We wouldn’t be where we are without the help of our annual sponsors. As our reputation has become stronger and more broadly recognized in the industry, we now have five annual sponsors generously providing consistent support to our society: IBM, McKesson, CGI, Gevity, and Cerner. I encourage members to thank the people they know in these organizations for their support of BCHIMPS.

Our primary strategy for this next year is to continue the excellent work done in organizing our spring and fall conferences, and our numerous socials. I would also like to focus on five additional priorities for the year:

  1. Enhance governance of our organization
  2. Learn more about the priorities of  health informatics programs in post-secondary educational organizations and create partnerships with them
  3. Improve succession planning for board positions and other roles
  4. Strengthen our partnerships with health informatics organizations such as COACH, Anhix and HIMSS as well as physician and nurse associations.
  5. Communicate our success to our members and to the health sector in B.C. and beyond

After a social in Victoria, our AGM and a successful education event in Kelowna, we are now entering into a very busy month of June. We hope to have the opportunity to meet with you during one of the following events:

  • eHealth Toronto – June 4-7.
  • Our first social in Whitehorse, Yukon on June 19
  • The Reboot Health Summit Conference in Kelowna on June 25-27
  • Our next Education Series, this time in Vancouver on June 29

Event details will follow soon. Please also save the date fall conference September 29 in Vancouver. I believe there is never been a better time to be a BCHIMPS member! I hope to see or hear from you very soon.
